Tehran, March 14, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani said Iran has paid dearly to gain its objectives and to safeguard its ideals.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the newly-released Iranian diplomat Noor Ahmad Nikbakht who was kidnapped by terrorists in Yemen.

During the meeting, the President stressed that the Iranian nation will never give up its religious culture, faith and desire for independence and freedom.

He praised the spirit of struggle of the Iranian diplomat during his captivity and appreciated the efforts of the ministries of foreign affairs and intelligence to secure Nikbakht’s freedom.

Nikbakht was freed and arrived in Tehran on Thursday.

He was kidnapped in 2013 by unidentified terrorist groups in Yemen.
