New York, March 11, IRNA – Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi told Turkish Women’s Affairs Deputy Minister Nesrin Celik in New York on Wednesday that Iran-Turkey cooperation serves as a suitable ground for campaign against violence and extremism in the region.
Molaverdi called for development of cooperation between Iran and Turkey and said their cultural, historical and religious commonalties serves as an effective factor in that connection.
Noting high position of Iran and Turkey in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Molaverdi said all these these points are effective in in promoting mutual cooperation in the fields of women and family affairs.
She referred to violence and extremism under the guise of religion in the Middle East, especially against women and children, and said mutual cooperation in that connection will serve as a suitable ground for campaign against the violence.
She went on to say that Iran is ready to sign a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between Iranian and Turkish institutions in charge of women on the eve of the upcoming visit of the Turkish president to Iran.
Calik, for her part, asked Iran to share experience with Turkey on women’s contribution to economic and cultural activities.
She said Iran-Turkey cooperation in the field of women’s affairs has started since years ago and certain agreements were signed in that connection. She hoped that the cooperation will become more formal during the upcoming visit of the Turkish president to Iran.
