Salehi: Arak reactor to remain heavy water facility

Tehran, March 7, IRNA Arak reactor will remain a heavy water facility with alterations in its design, head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Slaehi said on Saturday.

Focusing on the last round of Iran-western Sextet nuclear talks, he said that with the alterations in Arak Heavy Water Reactor, the western countries' concerns about it will be removed.


'That was one of the challenging points in the negotiations, that by grace of God and the sound logic and proposed technical alteration by the Islamic Republic of Iran the other side was convinced that the matter is resolved,' he added.

Salehi said that Iran is ready to ease the concerns of the other side within a logical framework, the international regulations and agreements, and the nuclear treaties and had thus far achieved very good results.

Asked about the main obstacles in the way of achieving a final agreement, Salehi said that he would not get down to details.

'Currently, the technical talks are in process on research and development issue, but, they are not completed yet.'
