Iran, Russia FMs discuss issues of mutual interest in Geneva

Tehran, March 2, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif conferred with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on issues of mutual interest on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva.

In the meeting, which took place in Geneva Monday noon, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and underlined strengthening of cooperation.


Regional issues, especially Syrian crisis, were among issues discussed by the two foreign ministers.

Zarif and Lavrov also reviewed the latest developments in nuclear negotiations between Iran and P5+1 and underlined continuation of talks betwee between the two sides.

Negotiations between Iran, US and Europe in the presence of Seyed Abbas Araqchi, Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi, Helga Schmidt and Wendy Sherman is to begin in Montreux Monday afternoon.

Zarif and US Secretary of States John Kerry are to join the meeting Monday afternoon.

In this round of talks, Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi and the US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz will be present.

Zarif had already said that negotiations had made progress technically, but concerning sanctions there were still differences.
