Iran nuclear talks to remain unaffected by Netanyahu US visit - White House

White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said that the Israeli Prime Ministers Benjamin Netanyahus upcoming speech in US Congress would hardly affect the Iran nuclear negotiations.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The White House does not think that the Israeli Prime Ministers Benjamin Netanyahus upcoming speech inUS Congress will affect the Iran nuclear negotiations, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said duringa press briefing.I don't think so, Earnest said when asked onFriday whether he thought that Netanyahus speech was bad forthe Iran nuclear negotiations.

Earnest explained the reason is the opportunity presented tothe United States tofinally resolve the international community's concerns aboutIran's nuclear program atthe negotiating table.

Prime Minister Netanyahu is set toaddress a joint session ofthe US Congress onMarch, 3 afterhe was invited byUS House Speaker John Boehner. However, the invitation has become mired incontroversy, withthe White House accusing Boehner ofviolating protocol.

Earlier onFriday, the White House said that US President Barack Obama would not meet withNetanyahu duringhis visit toavoid creating the impression ofmeddling inIsraeli politics just two weeks beforeIsraeli elections.

Meanwhile, the United States, alongwith Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany together known asthe P5+1 group are still inthe midst ofnegotiations withIran onits contested nuclear program.

The UN Security Council and a number ofcountries have imposed several rounds ofsanctions onIran forits alleged development ofnuclear weapons, despiteIran repeatedly claiming that its uranium enrichment program is forpeaceful purposes only.

The latest deadline forthe P5+1 group and Iran tosign a comprehensive agreement ensuring that Tehran does not develop nuclear weapons has been set forJuly 2015.
