Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani began a visit to the holy city of Qom Wednesday morning in line with his tours to various Iranian provinces.




Locating about 130 km southwestern Tehran, Qom is considered the religious capital of the country for it is the largest center for senior clerics and a significant destination of pilgrimage.


While in Qom, President Rouhani is to inaugurate construction operation of a 410-kilometer express railroad which is to link the Iranian capital of Tehran to the city of Qom and the ancient city of Isfahan in central Iran respectively.

President Rouhani is also to address local people at the holy Shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA) who is the sister of the eight Imam of Shiite Muslims.

The President will later visit the provincial residents from all walks of life and hold separate meetings with Grand Ayatollahs, provincial officials, scholars, elites, businessmen, exemplary figures and wartime martyrs' families.

While in Qom, he is also to tour a number of development projects.

So far, President Rouhani has visited provinces of Khuzestan, Hormuzgan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Ilam, Lorestan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Ardebil, Khorassan Razavi, Zanjan, Golestan and South Khorasan, Bushehr and Isfahan.
