Iran ready to discuss US proposal to reduce number of centrifuges to 6,500

Tehran and Washington are "slowly bringing their positions togethers" in talks on Iranian nuclear program, according to a source in the Iranian delegation.

GENEVA (Sputnik) Tehran is ready toconsider and discuss a US proposal toreduce the number ofits nuclear centrifuges amidthe negotiations onthe Iranian nuclear program inGeneva, a source inthe Iranian delegation told RIA Novosti.
"This suggestion was put forward bythe American delegation. This proposal completely suits the interests ofWashington; inturn, Tehran is ready toconsider and discuss this inthe future," the source said.

According tothe source, the "sides are slowly bringing their positions together."

"The presence ofthe head ofIran's Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi atthe talks sped upthe negotiation process," the source stated.

Earlier inthe day, the Iranian and US delegations wrapped uptalks onTehran's nuclear program inGeneva. Over the pasttwo days, the delegations headed bytop diplomats met three times and some gaps appear tohave been narrowed.

Delegations fromIran and the P5+1 group, comprising the United States, Russia, China, France and Germany convened inGeneva Sunday tohold discussions onTehran's nuclear program.

The UN Security Council and a number ofcountries have accused Iran oftrying todevelop nuclear weapons. Tehran has repeatedly rejected those claims, stating that its uranium enrichment program is forpeaceful purposes only.

Iran and the P5+1 group have held several rounds oftalks onTehran's nuclear program inrecent years withlimited results. A long-term agreement has tobe reached byJuly 2015.
