TEHRAN (Tasnim) Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko held talks on a whole host of issues, including ways to strengthen bilateral relations in all spheres.
During the meeting held in the Belarusian capital of Minsk on Tuesday, the two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and the world.

Zarif and Lukashenko also explored avenues for closer cooperation between Tehran and Minsk in diverse areas.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival earlier on Tuesday, Zarif lauded the decisive role Belarus can play in settling regional issues, the Ukraine crisis in particular.

He said that the crisis in Ukraine will top the agenda of his talks with senior Belarusian officials.

As regards Tehrans stance on the Ukraine crisis, Zarif asserted that Iran has always supported a peaceful solution to the issue.

After nearly 16 hours of negotiations in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, the leaders of Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine on Thursday agreed a deal to end fighting in eastern Ukraine.

The Iranian FM referred to the agreement, and expressed the hope that it can lead to the cessation of hostilities, as they can have very adverse consequences for the global peace and security.
