Heading a high-ranking delegation, Jahangiri is slated to hold meetings with several officials including the Iraqi President Fuad Masum, Prime Minister Abadi, Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari, and the head of the Islamic supreme council of Iraq, Ammar al-Hakim .
The Iranian official also plans to attend Iran-Iraq High Joint Commission as well as a ceremony to sign several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
He will also attend a joint press conference with Abadi.
Jahangiri will further pay a visit to Iran’s specialized exhibition in Iraq, and meet Iranian and Iraqi businessmen as part of his three-day visit.
The Iranian first VP’s visit to Baghdad comes nearly four months after al-Abadi’s visit to Tehran in October, during which the two officials agreed to hold the next high joint commission in Baghdad within months as part of efforts to expand mutual cooperation.
Elsewhere in their October meeting, Jahangiri made assurances that Tehran will fully support Baghdad in the fight against terrorist groups.
