TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran has considerably increased exports of its non-oil goods to neighboring Iraq in recent months, a senior Iranian trade official announced on Saturday.

"The value of Iran's non-oil exports to Iraq in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2014-January 22, 2015) has hit $5.112 billion," Head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Valiollah Afkhamirad told reporters on Saturday.

He pointed to the total value of Iran's non-oil exports in the first 10 months of the current year, and said, "Iran's non-oil exports, including gas condensates, hit $42.6 billion in the said period."

Afkhamirad said that Iran's non-oil exports in the said period showed a 24.2 percent rise as compared with last year's corresponding period.

Last month, Head of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al-e Eshaq announced that the value of trade exchanges between Iran and Iraq had reached $12 billion.

In October, Afkhamirad announced that Iran and Iraq have signed a trade protocol for the promotion of cooperation between the two countries.

"This protocol has 15 paragraphs and it has been signed to facilitate trade transactions between Iran and Iraq," he told FNA at the time.

He pointed to the visit of Iraqi Trade Minister Mohammed Abdul Karim to Iran and his meetings with senior Iranian officials, and said, "The Iraqi minister discussed the problems facing Iranian businessmen for exporting their goods to Iraq."

The TPO chief, meantime, pointed to the recent visit of Qatari Economy Minister Abdullah bin Jassim al-Thani to Iran and said, "The Iranian and Qatari officials discussed facilitating expansion of trade exchanges between the two countries' businessmen."

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
