Nuclear deal requires strong political will: Irans FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made it clear that a final, comprehensive agreement on Tehrans peaceful nuclear program hinges upon a strong political will to be shown by the parties engaged in talks with Iran.

Speaking to reporters in the German city of Munich on Friday night, Zarif said not only a single solution, but several solutions are available to settle the Wests standoff on Irans nuclear case.

The top Iranian diplomat made the comments after holding separate bilateral meetings with US Secretary of State John Kerry and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the sidelines of the 51st Munich Security Conference.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehrans nuclear energy program.

Elsewhere in his interview, Zarif said the parties appear to be willing to strike a deal, but time is needed to see whether they have also the political will to adjust their willingness with a political decision.

Zarif sai d his meetings with the US and German diplomats included details, particularly the removal of (anti-Iran) sanctions, the way of continuation of (Irans uranium) enrichment, and the number and function of centrifuges.

Iran and the six powers look to reach a framework agreement in March and a final long-term deal by June 30.

Following an interim nuclear deal signed in Geneva in November 2013, two deadlines for a final, comprehensive deal have been missed, and now a third one is looming on July 1.
