Iran turns industrial waste into petrochemical feed
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian researchers managed to convert industrial and hazardous waste materials into value-added products used in the petrochemical industry.
"The researchers ran plasma gasification pilot for industrial waste, and we managed to synthesize gas from dangerous waste by a reactor," Hamid-Reza Bozorg-Zadeh, the lead author of the study, said.

The synthesis gas will be used as petrochemical industries feed for producing diesel and petrol.

This method will make it possible to recycle all types of municipal solid waste, industrial, medical and hazardous waste, and all metal and glass waste.

Iran has exported more than 7.8 million tons of petrochemicals worth more than $5.1bln in the six months ending September 22.

Iran produced 40 million tons of petrochemicals in the last calendar year (ended March 20), with $9bln worth of its products being exported.

The country, which is a major oil exporter, plans to increase its petrochemical exports to $12bln this year.

Iran has significantly expanded the range and volume of its petrochemical production over the past few years.
