Iran Majlis speaker says not pessimistic about nuclear talks

Irans Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani has expressed hope that the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers would yield result.
The Iranian official said on Tuesday that Iran and the P5+1 group would hopefully reach a conclusion at the end of the mutually-agreed deadline slated for end of June.

Larijani said he believed the negotiations face ups and downs, but he was not pessimistic about the current path taken by the two sides.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany have been holding talks to secure a final comprehensive deal over the Iranian nuclear energy program.

Larijani, who also served as Irans chief nuclear negotiator from 2005 to 2007, said the global powers should admit the fact that the principles of Irans nuclear issue are not negotiable and problems can only be solved through diplomacy.

He said Western governments have repeatedly tried to dissuade Iran from pursuing its peaceful nuclear program, but all these efforts have been in vain.

The core of Irans nuclear program should be preserved in the talks as one of the achievements of the Islamic Revolution, the Iranian official stated.

Iran and the P5+1 have missed two deadlines to ink a final agreement after they agreed on an interim deal in Geneva in November 2013.

The two sides now seek to reach a high-level political agreement by March 1 and to confirm the full technical details of the accord by July 1.
