Iran is ready to transfer gas from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to Europe, according to the international affairs director of the National Iranian Gas Company Azizollah Ramezani.MOSCOW, February 1 (Sputnik) Iran could transfer gas fromAzerbaijan and Turkmenistan toEurope, the international affairs director ofthe National Iranian Gas Company said Sunday.Our proposal is receiving Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan gas inIran and transferring it toEurope throughTurkey, asthis route is the most economical way fortransfer ofgas toEurope, Azizollah Ramezani was quoted assaying byIRNA news agency.
According toRamezani, the preparation ofnecessary infrastructure forthe project could begin quickly if political impediments were removed.Ramezani added that current plans ofusing a Caspian Sea underwater gas pipeline toexport gas fromTurkmenistan toEurope throughAzerbaijan would be expensive and unpractical.
In 2012, Azerbaijan signed an agreement withTurkey onthe building ofthe Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP) that would bring Azerbaijani natural gas toEurope throughTurkey.
