Lavrov says solution to Iran's issue should not create risks for region

Iran's nuclear issue should be resolved only by using political and diplomatic means, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday.

MOSCOW, January 26 (Sputnik) Irans nuclear issue should be solved so asnot tocreate risks or threats tosecurity ofother countries inthe region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.
We are convinced that only a political diplomatic solution tothe issue is possible. We categorically insist that the problem is solved so asnot tocreate any risks or threats tosecurity ofcountries inthe region, including ofcourse Israel, Lavrov said duringa joint press conference withIsraeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman inMoscow.

In his turn, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that his country so far sees no agreement onIrans nuclear program that would suit everyone.

In regards tothe Iranian issue, we are followingthe 5+1 and Iran talks very closely. Our approach is that its better tohave no agreement thana bad one. So far we dont see a good agreement that would suit everyone, Lieberman said.
The West and Israel suspect Iran ofdeveloping a nuclear weapon underthe guise ofa civilian nuclear program, while Tehran claims its activities have purely peaceful implications. International mediators and Iran have been trying toachieve a deal onthe issue sincemid-2000s.
In November 2013, Iran and the P5+1 group ofmediators, which includes China, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, agreed tostrike a long-term agreement onIran's nuclear program withina year. However, the subsequent talks failed toresult ina comprehensive deal and the deadline has been moved toJuly 2015.
