IRGC commander underscores close ties with Oman

TEHRAN (FNA)- Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami underlined the good and friendly relations between Iran and Oman, saying that the two states can boost their relations to unique levels.
Salami made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting members of a delegation from Oman led by head of Oman National Defense College Major General Salim bin Musallam Qattan in Tehran on Wednesday.

Referring to Iran-Oman cordial relations, he said no negative point has ever existed in relations between the two nations.

Salami touched upon the significant geopolitical position of Iran and Oman as the two countries that are located in the two sides of the worlds most strategic energy waterway (the Strait of Hormuz), and said Tehran and Masqat enjoy a friendly relations based on mutual respect, unity and religious solidarity as well as good-neighboring policy and religious values.

Also yesterday, Iranian and Omani military officials in a meeting in Tehran said exchange of experiences and expansion of military cooperation between the two states would certainly boost peace and security in the Persian Gulf region.

In a meeting between Commander of the Islamic Republic's College of Military Sciences Brigadier General Hossein Valivand Zamani and Qattan, the two senior military officials reviewed ways of promoting cooperation in educational and training areas.

The meeting took place after the Omani official visited various parts of the Iranian military college.

Valivand Zamani, in the meeting, expressed the hoped that the relations between Tehran and Muscat would further grow.

He also said the two colleges should exchange more delegations and students.

In September 2013, Iran and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost their mutual cooperation in the defense sector.

The MoU was signed by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and Omani Minister Responsible for Defense Affairs Badr Bin Saud Bin Harib al-Busaidi in Tehran.

Iran attaches great importance to the consolidation of its ties with the Persian Gulf littoral states, specially Oman, to maintain security in the region.
