Russia eager to expand imports of Iran-made commodities

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the commercial office of the Russian Federation in Tehran Sergei Merkulov said that high-quality and competitive prices of the Iranian goods have persuaded Moscow to pave the ground for the further expansion of trade ties with Tehran.
Speaking at a meeting on development of exports to Russia on Thursday, Merkulov said as a result of efforts made by Iran-Russia Chamber of Commerce the ground has been prepared for expansion of exports and imports of commodities between the two sides.

The official noted that a Russian trade delegation will visit Iran within days to hold talks on the exports of Iran's aquatics, meat and dairy products to his country.

Referring to the situation of global oil markets he said Iran and Russia possess about 20% of the world oil and 40% of gas and they have commonalities with Kazakhstan and thus can form an association and take advantage of its benefits.

In December, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayee announced that Tehran and Moscow plan to boost their trade exchanges to $70 billion in the near future.

"The two countries (Iran and Russia) are serious about implementing an economic memorandum of understanding (MoU) which has been recently signed at the joint economic commission which amounts to $70 billion," Sanayee said.

He noted that Iran and Russia signed a major economic, trade and energy agreement in August 2014 which can pave the way for multiplying the two countries' trade exchanges.

Over the last several years, Iran and Russia have had vast cooperation in different fields, specially in political and economic spheres.

The two states also enjoy special positions on the international scene and have long had constant and regular consultations on key regional and global issues.
