Europe-based Iranian students condemn Bahraini regime's atrocities

Tehran, Jan 12, IRNA The Union of Islamic Associations of the Europe-based Students have announced that to cover up its ongoing problems, the Bahraini regime has resorted to accusing Iran of interfering in its domestic affairs, while Tehran's role is restricted spiritual support for the oppressed people of Bahrain.
Issuing a statement, a copy of which was faxed to IRNA on Tuesday, the Union said, 'They do know that Iran has not had the least physical role in this regard and as Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) has announced, had Iran wished to interfere, situation in Bahrain would have changed. They charge Iran without any proof and evidence of meddling in Bahrain affairs, whereas establishment of British naval base shows clearly shows who is interfering with the destiny of the oppressed people of Bahrain.'
The statement further read, 'The new wave of suppression of the oppressed people of Bahrain, which has flared up once again in protest at the UK military base, has caused deep concern.'

The statement said, 'To gain further access to resources in the Middle East and to control developments in the region, the old British colonialism has put pressure on Al-Khalifa regime to put one of the most strategic naval bases of the country at the disposal of the British government, while suppressing the opposition in the most heinous form. What are going on in the streets of Bahrain under meaningful silence of the so-called pro-human rights media, annoys any freedom-loving person.'

The Union of the Islamic Associations of Iranian Students said arrest of the prominent thinker and popular cleric in Bahrain, Sheikh Ali Salman, and also insult to Ulima, expulsion and stripping dissidents of their nationality are among measures taken by the government of Bahrain.

Sheikh Ali Salman was detained by the Bahraini government about two weeks ago.

The Union while voicing sympathy with the oppressed people of Bahrain and condemning al-Khalifa regime, called for speedy release of Salman and full restoration of the rights of the people of Bahrain.
