Tehran, Jan 12, IRNA – Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said terrorists have targeted Islam, emphasizing that Islam is not terrorism.
‘Terrorism is a new threat. A terrorist organization has been transformed into a government for the first time and controls a land with a large amount of money in their possession. They destroy anything which is against them.’
On confronting the terrorists in the Internet and shutting down their websites, Gentiloni said, ‘Websites are like newspapers. Close one of them, another opens. So, we need coordination among Intelligence Services all over the world. We should work with Arab countries.’
Disagreeing with the French politician Marine Le Pen who has suggested suspending visa-free Schengen Area, Gentiloni urged all political parties to cooperate with each other in fighting terrorism. ‘Visa-free Schengen Area lets the Europeans travel freely. Its suspension has no sense. Should we do it, it will be a present for the terrorists.’
Gentiloni had already asked French media to be more careful when they disseminate information about terrorist activities and avoid tarnishing the image of Islam.
‘When I see the expression ‘Islamic tragedy’ while reading the papers, I understand what ‘Islamophobia’ means. Terrorism should not be confused with Islam or immigrants.’
