Government to support private sector investment in medical projects

Tehran Prov., Jan 11, IRNA Minister of Health and Medical Education Seyed Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi said the government welcomes and supports investment of the private sector in infrastructural projects in the field of health and treatment, including building hospitals and participating in the development and equipment of medical centers.
Speaking at a session of administrative council of Shahre Qods near Tehran, he said construction operations of a 160-bed hospital in this township started under the previous government and the credits required for its implementation are at the disposal of the Ministry of Road and Urban Development.
Stressing that there is a lack of hospital beds and treatment equipment in this township, Hashemi said there is need for 800 hospital beds which cannot be addressed with regard to the present credits.

He said a rise in the number of specialized doctors and their constant presence in treatment centers, maintenance of the required equipment and facilities and improvement of laboratory and surgery services are among important achievements of implementation of the plan for the health development.

However, he further remarked, the government is not capable of maintaining and developing infrastructures and providing proper health equipment and therefore is in need of participation of the private sector.

Improvement of the qualitative and quantitative level of treatment services is in need of active participation and effective investment of the private sector in this regard, he said.

He said his ministry is ready to support investors in the private sector for building treatment centers and hospitals in different parts of the country in order to remove the existing problems in the area of health and treatment.

The session was held in the presence of a representative from a European company for investment in the construction of a 600-bed hospital in Shahr-e Qods.
