Moscow, Tehran to discuss Iranian nuclear program on January 12: Diplomat

Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister will pay a visit to Tehran on January 12 to hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the country's controversial nuclear program.
MOSCOW, January 9 (Sputnik)Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov will pay a visit toTehran onJanuary 12 tohold talks withIranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif onthe country's controversial nuclear program, Tasnim News Agency reported Friday, citing Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi."Russian deputy [foreign] minister Ryabkov will arrive inIran onMonday, January 12, fora meeting withthe Iranian delegation and Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif," the agency quoted Araghchi assaying.

According toAraghchi, Zarif will also meet withUS Secretary ofState John Kerry onJanuary 14 inGeneva.

"The purpose ofthese meetings is toformulate recommendations forthe negotiators," the deputy foreign minister said.

In addition, Araghchi said that Iran and the US delegation will hold bilateral meetings onJanuary 15-17.

The international community has long expressed concern overIran's nuclear program, accusing Tehran ofdeveloping nuclear weapons underthe guise ofa civilian nuclear program. Tehran has repeatedly dismissed the accusations.

After years oftalks, Iran and the P5+1 group ofinternational mediators, which includes Russia, the United States, Britain, France, China and Germany, have agreed toprepare a document ensuring the peaceful nature ofTehran's nuclear program. However, the sides have only managed toreach an interim accord onthe issue.

The deadline fora long-term comprehensive agreement was extended untilJuly 1, 2015, withthe next roundof talks planned tobe conducted inGeneva onJanuary 18.
