Iran's presidential aide: ISIL fading away in Iraq

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President's Special Adviser for Ethnic Minorities Ali Younesi underlined that the defeat of the Takfiri terrorists is imminent and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) will fade away soon.
"Terrorist groups such as ISIL are fading away because the Muslim people of Iraq, ulemas and the entire region are standing against the terrorist acts of these groups," Younsei told FNA on Tuesday.

"We hope that Iraq, Syria and the Levant will soon be purged of terrorists," he added.

On Monday, Iraqi security officials and analysts said that the Iraqi security forces backed by Shiite militias, Kurdish forces and Sunni Muslim tribesmen would drive the ISIL terrorists from all Iraqi lands before the end of 2015.

Iraqi security officials and analysts said the local and regional circumstances of the battle between the Iraqi troops and ISIL Takfiri militants have changed in favor of Iraqi troops since June.

Iraqi troops backed by Shiite militias and Kurdish forces recaptured the towns of Saadiyah and Jalawlaa over the last few months. These had been under the control of the Takfiri group since early August.

Some weeks earlier, ISIL terrorists were driven out of Jurf al-Sakhar, a strategic town that was a key supplier for ISIL groups in Southern Baghdad.

In late December, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) strongly condemned the crimes committed by the ISIL in Iraq, and stressed that the war on ISIL should continue until all the Takfiri terrorists are driven out of entire Iraq.

"Even an inch of Iraq's soil should not be under the occupation of the Takfiri terrorists who have no objective other than (promoting) Islamophobia and destruction of Iraq's human and financial resources," Shamkhani said in a meeting with visiting Iraqi Defense Minister Khalid al-Obeidi in Tehran.

He underlined that the ISIL is in a weak position now, and said, "If some trans-regional countries' arms and financial aids to ISIL are cut, we will soon witness the liberation of all regions which are currently under the control of the terrorists."

Shamkhani reiterated that Iran has and will always support the restoration of security and tranquility in the regional countries, including Iraq.
