ACECR planning center for interdisciplinary Quranic studies
Tehran, Jan 5, IRNA -- The Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR) plans to launch a center for interdisciplinary Quranic studies and a databank of Quranic dissertations.
Hamid Saber Farzam, secretary of the 5th International Holy Quran Competition for Muslim Students made the announcement while addressing the closing ceremony of the contest on Sunday night.
He noted that after establishing the International Quran News Agency (IQNA) and organizing the international Quran competition for students, the interdisciplinary Quranic studies center and the Quranic dissertations data bank will be the ACECRs new accomplishments.

Saber Farzam further presented a report on the organization of the contest and said as many as 77 countries introduced representatives to take part in the competition from among whom students from 47 countries passed the required criteria to attend the Quranic event.

He added that the contest was held by the Iranian Academics Quranic Activities Organization with the motto of Quran, Harbinger of Kindness, Unity and Human Dignity and with the aim of bringing together Quran recietrs and memorizers for enhancing Islamic unity.

He noted that two Quranic seminars as well as 28 Quran recitation sessions were held on the sidelines of the competition.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Saber Farzam thanked the Mayor of Tehran as well as the Iranian foreign ministry, culture ministry, science ministry, Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), and others who cooperated in holding the international Quranic contest.

Following his address, as well as speeches delivered by a number of other officials, winners of the competitions received their awards.

The top winner in the memorization category was Mohamed Abdul Aziz Niyazi from Egypt while Iranian Qari Vahid Khazaei came first in recitation.
