Tehran, Dec 27, IRNA Iranian national football teams Head Coach Carlos Quiroz said here Friday Palestinian Football Federations unilateral cancellation of a friendly game with Iran damaged our teams status; the team should compensate.
It is truly a pity and very sorrowful. This caused a great damage for the national team in its preparation process for the Asian Nations Cup, said Quiroz, according to the Iranian Football Federation.
The only reason why we returned to Tehran was to play the preparatory friendly game versus Palestine and take a step towards improving the teams preparedness. Our initial plan was leaving for Australia today (on Friday) but since the two countries federations had since months ago arranged for this friendly, we, too, had counted on it. So we left the South African camp and returned to Iran to play the game with that team, said the Iranian head coach.

Quiroz reiterated that there is no reason for staying in Tehran any longer presently and any minute spent here will inflict a great loss against us in the Asian Nations Cup, which cannot be dealt with.

He said that the cancellation was odder due to the fact that the initial request for the friendly game was offered by the Palestinian Football Federation, which at the 90th minute unilaterally cancelled the game.

The Palestinian Football Federation should therefore pay for all the losses due to the changes occurred in the plan of the Iranian national football team and as soon as possible arrange for paying the costs of our flight to Australia, added Quiroz.

Asked his evaluation about the Iranian team two weeks before the beginning of the Asian Nations Cup games, the head coach said that our competitors are preparing themselves amid an ideal atmosphere and at equal and appropriate temperatures with Australia.

Bahrain is even already in Australia. This is by no means acceptable that the Palestinian national team on the last minute unilaterally cancels this game, he concluded.
