Western efforts threat to global stability: Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the dominating approach and violations of international law by the certain Western states led by the US are "a serious threat" to global stability.
"Apart from the physical threats, which put human lives in jeopardy, there is a geopolitical threat, associated with a very neglectful attitude toward international law, attempts to act not in accordance with the principles of collective security stipulated by the UN Charter, but by means of imposing a unilateral view on everyone else," Lavrov told Russia's Kommersant newspaper.

Lavrov also called for joint international efforts to counter the existing global threats, saying Moscow is prepared to contribute to the process of solving the crises.

The top Russian diplomat added that the positions adopted by certain Western states toward the global issues are no longer based on [an] objective reality.

He said the Western sanctions imposed on Russia are against international law, adding, The situation that we see today in connection with unilateral restrictions introduced by the US, the European Union and some other countries certainly contradicts international legal norms, including, on a whole number of occasions, the norms of the WTO [World Trade Organization]."

"These illegal unilateral restrictive measures are definitely affecting our economy to a certain extent," he said.

The top Russian diplomat said that pretexts for increasing this pressure are chosen in a very dirty manner.

Russia has been hit with a series of sanctions by the US and the European Union, which have been accusing Moscow of playing a role in the ongoing crisis in eastern Ukraine, a claim Russia has repeatedly rejected.

Russia has been witnessing a decline in the value of its currency, ruble, which is going through its worst crisis since 1998 due to Western bans, dropping oil prices and trader fears.
