Sydney to host Iran for AFC Asian Cup

Iranian footballers are set to start their preparations for the upcoming Asian Cup games in the Australian city of Sydney.
The Iranian Football Federation on Monday confirmed that the national team will be based in Sydneys northern beaches to prepare itself for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, whichis to be held in Australia in January.

Iran is drawn in group C of the tournament along with Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

Michal Brown, who is in charge of the organizing committee of the games, said he expects that the Iranian national team enjoy a warm welcome by the local community.

In the latest rating of the national football teams by international football governing body FIFA, Iran was ranked first in Asia ahead of Japan and South Korea.

The team has won the continental games three times and remains one of the main favorites in the upcoming tournament in January.

The national outfit is expected to arrive in Sydney on December 30 and train in the citys Cromer Park until January 7.The team will then head to Melbourne to play in its opening match against Bahrain on January 11.
