Iranian border guards arrest terror group leaders

Iranian border guards have arrested three terrorist leaders who were trying to illegally enter the country.
Irans Minister of Intelligence Seyyed Mahmoud Alavi announced late Wednesday that the terrorists were tracked down by forces of the Border Regiment as they were trying to cross into the Iranian territory.

Alavi has described the three as leaders of major terror groups, who were trying to enter Iran with an intention of carrying out bombings in religious gatherings, IRNA reported, citing the website of the Ministry of Intelligence.

The three arrested were planning to carry out a suicide operation in religious gatherings, Alavi, who was addressing people in the city of Ferdows in the eastern province of South Khorasan, said.

Over the recent days, thousands of people gathered in mosques and other religious centers to hold special ceremonies for the commemoration of religious figures.

A 2008-terrorist attack on the Seyed al-Shohada Mosque in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz left 14 people killed and hundreds more injured. Three men were sentenced to death after the incident as they were convicted of committing the terrorist act.

Iran accuses the United States, Britain and Israel of orchestrating such terrorist attacks on Iranian citizens and officials. Suspects arrested by security forced have admitted to having links to CIA, Mossad and MI6.
