China to finance subway project for Tehran suburbs

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and China have concluded a contract on financing the construction of Tehran-Varamin-Garmsar subway, a senior Iranian lawmaker announced on Monday.
"Iran and China have signed a contract to finance the Tehran-Varamin-Garmsar subway," Rapporteur of the parliament's Planning and Budget Commission Gholamreza Kataeb said on Monday.

He noted that Iran has signed a relevant contract with HNCDI which is a consortium of two Chinese companies.

Kataeb said the 108-kilometer-long subway is already under construction.

The Iranian lawmaker said that the Chinese companies are due to supply the electrical and mechanical equipment as well as wagons, locomotives and railway equipment.

In November, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Ali Nourzad said that a contract had been signed between the ministry and a Chinese company to provide enough funds for the completion of a railway project in Western Iran.

Nourzad said on that Tehran-Hamedan-Sanandaj 410-kilometer-long railway in Western part of the country in scheduled to be financed by the Chinese company.

He further added that the contract was signed during a recent visit to Iran by a Chinese delegation.

Trade between Iran and China in the past year was estimated at $45bln.

Iran is currently China's third largest supplier of crude, providing Beijing with roughly 12 percent of its total annual oil consumption.
