Iranian MP deplores UN inaction on violation of human rights in US

TEHRAN (Tasnim) An Iranian lawmaker slammed the United Nations inaction on the violation of human rights in the United States, after Senate unveiled details of torture program at the CIA.

Referring to the recent US Senate report released on CIA tortures, Evaz Heidarpour, member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told the Tasnim News Agency on Friday that the UN should appoint special rapporteurs for the United States to study human rights conditions in the country.

Racism and brutality is institutionalized in the United States and its allied states and regimes like the Zionist regime of Israel, the Iranian MP said, adding that the fact is evident in the killing of African-Americans and crimes against these people in different US states.

Pointing to the US pressures on the UN for the appointment of Ahmed Shaheed as the UN special rapporteur on Irans human rights conditions, the lawmaker said the move came as the US knows well that human rights are being observed in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Earlier this month, the US Senate Intelligence Committee released its long-awaited congressional report, which detailed the CIAs use of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques (torture) on prisoners.

Also the US grand jury decisions not to prosecute the white officers responsible for 18-year-old Michael Brown's death and a fatal chokehold on New York father of six Eric Garner in July, had triggered weeks of protests across the US.

Thousands of American protestors have since taken to the streets to express their outrage over police brutality against people of color, demanding justice for black men killed by white police.

Earlier, Iran's Foreign Ministry has condemned racial discrimination against minorities, black people in particular, saying that the protests in the US unveiled realities about human rights condition in the country.
