Ultra-regional flights to be monitored during Iranian Army’s drills

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Flights by ultra-regional aircraft will be kept under surveillance during large-scale military drills planned by the Iranian Army.
“All ultra-regional flights will be monitored during the maneuver,” Commander of Iran’s Air Defense Brigadier General Farzad Esmaeili said on Thursday.

He noted that always during the Iranian Army’s military exercises in the past, spy, reconnaissance and fighter jet aircraft left the area where the drills were carried out “and so will be the case this time, too”.

The senior commander added that the country’s Air Defense will monitor aircraft movements in an area of 133,000 square kilometers over land and 162,000 square kilometers over sea.

Earlier on Thursday, Army Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi said the Army’s four forces, namely the Ground Force, Air Force, Navy, and Air Defense, will take part in the massive maneuver next week.

The main stage of the Army’s maneuver, titled “Muhammad Rasullullah” (Muhammad is the messenger of God), is slated for December 23-31, he stated.

General Mousavi added that the drills will be carried out in a large area of 2.2 million square kilometers, stretching from the northern Indian Ocean to the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf and in the southern Iranian provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan.
