US not serious in fighting ISIL: Iran official

A senior Iranian official says the United States is not serious in fighting the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group.
Amid continued US-led airstrikes against the group in Syria, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, Syrias political future pertains to the people of this country.

Speaking on Tuesday at the end of his meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, he said, Tehran and Moscow assertively follow their strategy of supporting Syria and Iraq.

Tehran and Moscow will actively help Iraq and Syria in fighting terrorism and the ISIL, the Iranian official stated.

He added that Russias support for Iraq and Syria in fighting terrorism is real.

Since late September, the US and its allies have been conducting airstrikes against the ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.

Washington has also been carrying out similar air raids against ISIL positions in Iraq since August, but the raids have so far failed to dislodge the ISIL.

Russia has accused the US-led coalition against the ISIL of seeking to surreptitiously topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assads government through its airstrikes in Syria.

Possibly... this is not so much an operation against Islamic State (ISIL) as the preparation for an operation to change the regime surreptitiously under the cover of this anti-terrorist operation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said last month.
