Pakistan commerce minister to visit Tehran soon

Islamabad, Dec 11, IRAN Pakistan Commerce Minister Khurram Dasgir Khan is to visit Iran next week to participate in the 7th joint trade commission session.
Talking to IRNA, Iran's commercial attach in Pakistan Morad Nemati said the two-day visit which is to take place on December 16 aims to pave the way for further trade cooperation.
He also referred to the 19th session of Iran-Pakistan joint economic commission which was held in Islamabad last Monday and Tuesday.

Nemati said presence of Minister of Economy and Financial Affairs Ali Tayyebnia in the meeting and his meetings with senior Pakistani officials indicate the high importance Iran attaches to trade and economic relations with Pakistan.

He further pointed to the signing of five letters of understanding as well as a final statement at the end of the minister's visit and said the presence of the Pakistani prime minister in signing ceremony proves the strong will of both countries to expand mutual ties especially in economic and trade areas.

The official further described trade and economic cooperation between the two countries as growing and said 70 percent of the trade volume goes to Iran's exports to Pakistan.

Iran's large economic delegation led by Tayyebnia arrived here Monday morning to attend 19th meeting of Iran-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission.

During his two-day stay, Tayyebnia held separate meetings with Minister of Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs and Statistics Ishaq Dar, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Commerce Minister Khurram Dasgir Khan and Sartaj Aziz, National Security and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister.

The meeting focused on the natural gas pipeline project as well as exports of Iran's electricity to Pakistan in a near future.

Tehran-Islamabad trade value is less than one billion dollar. Officials of the two neighboring countries are not satisfied with the figure noting that it does not suit bilateral political relations.
