Finding oil in Mazandaran denied
TEHRAN Dec 10 (Shana)--Managing director of Kharzar Exploration and Production Company (KEPCO) Ali Osouli denied discovery of any oil or gas fields in the northern province of Mazandaran.
In an interview with Shana, KEPCOs managing director said the news pertaining to discovery of two oil fields in Mazandaran province is baseless, and added that so far the company has not received any report on finding oil in the provinces territory.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Osouli pointed out to successful completion of the second well in Sardare-Jangal oil field in the waters of Caspian Sea.
General Governor of Mazandaran province, Rabie Falah Jelodar, announced yesterday the discovery of two large oil wells in the province, with hydrocarbon reserves several times more than some other fields located in other parts of the country, ready for extraction.
NIOCs exploration department has also denied discovery of hydrocarbon either oil or gas reserves in Mazandaran province.
KEPCO as one of five exploration and production companies is a subdivision of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) founded in January 2000.
KEPCO is the authority in exploration, development and production of oil and gas in Caspian Sea region (Iranian parts) and three neighboring provinces of Golestan, Mazanderan and Gilan.
KEPCO supervises all the contracts signed by local and international companies regarding research-study and development of gas and oil reserves in the area including the pertinent environmental matters.
