Tehran, Dec 10, IRNA � Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative in International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi said Iran believes that access to mass destruction weapons is contrary to Islamic teachings.
��Najafi made the remarks in the 2-day international conference on consequences of using nuclear weapons in Vienna.
Since the atomic bombardment of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the US, mankind has been living with fear of nuclear weapons.

Nuclear weapons cannot recognize borders and distinguish between fighters and civilians, so having nuclear weapons should be condemned and they should not be considered as a source of power, said Najafi.

He added all divine religions are opposed to applying mass destruction weapons, especially nuclear ones.

Najafi continued Iran, as a victim of mass destruction weapons, strongly believes that having atomic weapons would not create and guarantee security for any country and the sole guarantee against such a threat is full anihilation of them under severe international control.

He referred to remarks of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the opening ceremony of the 16th NAM Summit in Tehran who said Iran considers using nuclear and chemical weapons as a big guilt and inexcusable.

The Iranian envoy expressed dissatisfaction with the slow trend of nuclear disarmament process in the world and underlined desire of majority of the world community, including Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states, to fulfill nuclear disarmament, as a principle of Non-Proliferation Treaty convention.

He urged participants in the conference to call on governments having nuclear arsenal to act upon their commitment to NPT and avoid any kind of development of or research on nuclear weapons, any kind of threat to use this kind of weapons against other governments and any kind of remodeling atomic weapons and their installations and deployment of such weapons in other states' territories.

Najafi expressed Iran's support for creation of areas free of nuclear weapons all around the world including the Middle East.
