Tehran puts $40Bln of oil contracts on table for foreign investors

Iranian officials have said that Royal Dutch Shell, British Petroleum, France's Total and Russia's Lukoil had expressed interest in investing in Iran when the sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear program are eased.
MOSCOW, December 8 (Sputnik) Iran will offer foreign investors new oil contracts amounting to $40 billion atan international conference inLondon tobe held in2015, the deputy director forcombined planning atthe National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said Monday."More than40 major oil industry projects and plans have been prepared inorder tobe introduced atthe London conference, which is scheduled tobe held inMarch, 2015," Moshtaq-Ali Gohari was quoted assaying byIranian television network Press TV.

Gohari stated that the projects tobe presented toinvestors inLondon will amount toas much as $40 billion.

According tothe Press TV, the announcement was made asmany foreign business delegations seeking investment opportunities had visited Iran inrecent months.

The West suspects suspect Iran ofdeveloping a nuclear weapon underthe guise ofa civilian program. Tehran's controversial nuclear activities have triggered the imposition ofseveral rounds ofsanctions onthe country. In particular, the United States, the European Union, and a number ofother nations have banned domestic businesses fromentering intoany energy, missile, and financial agreements withIran.

Iran's repeated claims that its nuclear program is aimed atsatiating the country's increasing energy demand have not convinced the West. Talks betweeninternational mediators and Iran, which were held inNovember 2014 inVienna, Austria, failed toarrive ata deal. The deadline fora comprehensive agreement withIran oncurbing its nuclear activities inexchange fora partial easing ofsanctions onthe country was moved toJuly 2015.
