Iranian researchers detect internal bleeding point by N. medicine
TEHRAN (ISNA)- A group of Iranian nuclear medicine team at a Treatment Center in Shiraz, southern Iran, have managed to detect the point of internal bleeding by nuclear medicine method.
The researchers could diagnose gastrointestinal bleeding point in a 16-year girl who was under tests for three years in Namazi Training and Treatment Center. She was treated by nuclear medicine method for the first time in Iran, said Head of Nuclear Medicine Department of Shiraz University Mehdi Haghighatafshar.

The patient was suffering gastrointestinal bleeding and hemoglobin loss due to unknown reasons for three years, he said.

The patient received heparin injection to intensify bleeding and images were taken by gamma camera and SPECT-CT nuclear medicine. The method could detect that the bleeding point was at the end of small intestine only in 24 hours.

The patient has undergone a surgery and the two bleeding points were removed.

Using nuclear medicine, the patient receives or takes the radio-drug. The gamma camera takes images.

SPECT-CT used in Namazi Hospital in Shiraz is one of the most advanced gamma camera devices in southern Iran which is capable of taking CT-SCAN images with high quality
