US appreciates Russia
Rose Gottemoeller said that the US has been able to cooperate with Russia very well up to this point is the so-called P5+1 talks on Iran.
MOSCOW, December 5 (Sputnik) The US Under Secretary ofState forArms Control and International Security onFriday positively evaluated Russia's role duringnegotiations overIran's nuclear program.

"The second area where we've been able tocooperate withthe Russians very well upto this point is the so-called P5+1 talks onIran, where we are seeking an agreement that will remove any concerns that the Iranians are producing a nuclear weapon, and here too the Russians have been good partners atthe negotiating table," Rose Gottemoeller said ata news conference inKiev.

The P5+1 group ofcountries joined diplomatic efforts in2006 inlight ofWestern countries' suspicions that Iran was trying tobuild a nuclear weapon underthe guise ofa civilian nuclear program. Tehran has repeatedly denied the allegations saying its nuclear program was peaceful and aimed atmeeting the country's growing energy needs.

The latest roundof talks betweenIran and the P5+1 international mediators began onNovember 18 inVienna. The five UN Security Council permanent members Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany were expected tosign a comprehensive long-term deal withIran byNovember 24. The participants agreed toextend the deadline forreaching a deal untilJuly 1, 2015 withthe specific goal offinishing the political agreement withinfour months and toresume negotiations inthe next few weeks.
