German expert slams excessive western demands in push for Iran deal
Berlin, Nov 28, IRNA -- A leading German Mideast analyst lashed out at western powers for what he viewed as excessive demands in pressing Iran to agree to a comprehensive nuclear agreement.
Talking to IRNA, the head of the Berlin-based Governance Center Middle East/North Africa at the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA School of Governance, Professsor Udo Steinbach said, 'The West has its own agenda and that's a zero-sum game.'
The West is trying to push ahead with its own interests and Iran is paying the price for it. The West is not really pursuing a policy which would really take into account the interests of all sides in the Iranian nuclear case, he added.

Steinbach stressed western demands to monitor Iran's nuclear program was not acceptable from the point of view of Iran.

He said western calls to have greater supervision of Tehran's nuclear program was hypocritical, given the fact that Israel -- a western ally in the Middle East--has repeatedly refused the UN nuclear watchdog to control its nuclear program and

has yet to join the NPT.

Steinbach pointed out the Iranian nuclear row was 'never a technical but a political issue.'

The West has yet to accept Iran as a revolutionary state, he reiterated.
