Putin, Rouhani note significant progress in Iran nuclear talks: Kremlin
The Russian President and his Iranian counterpart have discussed the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program and noted significant progress in the latest round of talks in Vienna.


MOSCOW, November 24 (Sputnik) Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani onMonday discussed ina phone call the situation aroundTehran's controversialnuclear programand noted significant progress inthe latest roundof talks inVienna, the Kremlin said.

"The phone call betweenRussian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was held onIran's initiative," the Kremlin said ina statement.
"The presidents discussed the situation aroundthe Iranian nuclear program and noted significant progress, achieved duringthe P5+1 and Iran ministerial meeting that recently ended inVienna," the statement said.
Iran and the group ofP5+1mediators, comprising five UN Security Council permanent members Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, agreed Monday toextend the deadline toreach a comprehensive nuclear agreement untilJuly 1 next year and toresume negotiations inthe next few weeks.

The previous deadline toreach a comprehensive deal onIran's nuclear program was slated forNovember 24.

Before the new deadline was announced onMonday, there was a lot ofspeculation asto whether or not the talks would be continued if the ministerial meeting failed toland an agreement.
