Iran to produce oil from Caspian Sea reservoirs
TEHRAN, Nov. 24 (MNA) Khazar Oil and Gas Company has informed Mehr News about companys oil explorations in Caspian Sea.
A report sent by the company to Mehr News provided details of excavation of new oil wells in the depth of 3500 meters in sea bed.Since 3 years ago, when the first hydrocarbon reservoir in Iranian section of the Caspian Sea was discovered, the operation of drilling for second exploratory well has now ended. Report by Khazar Oil and Gas Co. said that the drilling operations in Sardar-e-Jangal oil field had been ended.
Results found during explorative and descriptive drillings show that two types of oil produced in two wells in Sardar-e-Jangal have similar properties, including API index, reads part of the report. Images of the report show oil and gas burning over the platforms in the Caspian Sea creating similar imagery very familiar in the Persian Gulf oil fields, now turning Caspian waters into a source of energy and income as well.

In October 2011, Irans explorations and building Amir Kabir semisubmersible platform in the deep waters of Caspian Sea ultimately yielded with discovery of gas reservoirs with more than 50tr cubic feet of natural gas. In May 2012, oil was discovered in Sardar field; however, the amount of reservoir has not been estimated yet; with theoretical predictions of 7bn barrels of crude.

Ali Osouli, Khazar Oil and Gas Co. managing director had already announced discovery of oil and gas in the field; Currently, the test operation is underway to determine the reservoir, and details will be announced by the Ministry of Oil in near future, he had told the press.

Oil ministry officials had announced before that a newly explored gas field was located in Irans territorial waters, and no other Caspian Sea country would claim sharing the field. So far, the NIOC has drilled 7 wells in deep waters to find new hydrocarbon reservoirs, with 8th drilling ultimately hitting a massive natural gas field.

Currently, the amount of gas discovered in six exploratory blocs in depths has not yet been finalized, but preliminary studies indicate the existence of significant reservoirs of gas and oil. The sixth bloc has contained 8-10bn barrels of crude, and yet more exploration would exactly judge the amount of possible oil and gas reservoirs.
