Russia hopes for consensus on Iranian nuclear program: Foreign ministry

The Russian Foreign Ministry hopes the parties will achieve the most successful result during the Iranian nuclear program talks in Vienna.


MOSCOW, November 24 (Sputnik) Russia hopes that the parties participating inthe Vienna talks onIran's nuclear program will reach a timely consensus, Konstantin Alexeyev, deputy head ofthe Second Asia Department atthe Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday.

"Of course, we understand that this is not an easy road and the negotiation process is quite difficult, butwe still hope that this decision will be made. And now, asyou know, a very important roundof these talks is taking place, and we hope that all negotiating parties reach consensus, and that this problem, forthe gratification ofall parties, can finally be removed," Alexeyev said ata conference inMoscow.The final roundof talks onthe Iranian nuclear program betweenTehran and theP5+1group ofinternational negotiators, which comprises Russia, the United States, United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, began inVienna onTuesday.

Russian ForeignMinister Sergei Lavrovarrived inVienna onSunday evening and has held talks withGerman Foreign MinisterFrank-Walter Steinmeier, US Secretary ofState John Kerryand Iranian Foreign MinisterMohammad Javad Zarif.

Iran's nuclear program has long been a matter ofconcern forthe international community, withthe West accusing Tehran ofdeveloping a nuclear weapon underthe guise ofcivilian activities, though Iranian authorities have denied the claims.

During talks inGeneva inNovember 2013, the P5+1 group agreed toreach a deal withIranian authorities guaranteeing the peaceful nature ofits nuclear program byJuly. The deadline foran agreement was later extended toNovember 24.
