Iran nuclear talks extension remains one of options: Western diplomat
Less than 48 hours before the deadline on reaching an agreement on Iran's nuclear program, the P5+1 group and Tehran are discussing a range of options, including an extension of talks.

VIENNA, November 23 (Sputnik) Extension ofthe talks onthe Iraniannuclear program is one ofthe options onthe table, a Western diplomat told journalists Sunday inVienna.

"Only natural that less than48 hours fromthe deadline we're discussing a range ofoptions. An extension is one ofthose options," the diplomat said.

Earlier today, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabiusstatedthat the P5+1 group ofinternational mediators was doing its best toreach an agreement onIran's nuclear program, though he noted that differences remain.

Tehran claims its nuclear development is purely forpeaceful purposes, such asmeeting the country's growing energy needs. However, the West suspects Iran ofdeveloping a nuclear weapon underthe guise ofa peaceful program.

In 2013, the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, agreed toreach a long-term deal withTehran, which would guarantee the peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program byJuly 2014. Thedeadline forthe agreement was later postponed toNovember 24.

The final roundof Iran's talks withtheP5+1 groupkicked offon November 18 inVienna.
