Deputy FM calls for enhanced Iran-Afghan economic ties

Karaj, Nov 20, IRNA Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said on Thursday that Tehran and Kabul have numerous affinities, calling for the level of economic ties to be enhanced.
Addressing the Second Seminar on Afghan Refugee Elites in Iran, he said that economic cooperation between the two countries have declined.
He said that the scientific and cultural exchanges between the Iranian and Afghan nations can prepare the ground for the Afghan youth to continue their studies in Iranian universities.

Describing further cooperation between the two countries' elites as essential, Qashqavi noted that Iranian nation respects the Afghan nation and its hospitability towards the Afghan nation has been proved during the years it hosted the refugees.

"Iran has always supported oppressed nations, even during the years it was passing difficult periods such as war," he said.

Meanwhile, secretary of the seminar Mohammad Ali Salehi said that the two-day event seeks to review scientific, cultural, social and economic capabilities of the Afghan refugees.

Salehi noted that the seminar was organized by Foreign Ministry's Bureau for Aliens & Foreign Immigrants' Affairs to get well-acquainted with Afghan elite refugees to encourage them to reconstruct their country.

The seminar brought together 300 Afghan elites to share views on the ways for creating sustainable development in Afghanistan.
