Russia hopes to set basis for settlement of Iran's nuclear program deal: FM

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stated that Russia hopes Vienna talks will help to at least set the foundation for the solving of Iranian nuclear program issue.


VIENNA, November 19 (Sputnik) Russia hopes Viennatalkswill help toat least set the basis forthe settlement ofIranian nuclear program issue, RussianDeputy Foreign MinisterSergeiRyabkovsaid Tuesday uponarrival inVienna.

"The decision will depend onwhether we are able tofind a compromise or manage toat least elaborate a basis forthe settlement forthe Iranian nuclear program, that is the framework that will later add supplements and concrete elements," Ryabkov said, commenting onthe participation ofRussian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov inVienna talks.

According toRyabkov, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrovwill not visitVienna unless progress is made intalks overIranian nuclear program.

The West and Israel have long accused Iran ofattempting todevelop nuclear weapons underthe guise ofa civilian nuclear program, while Tehran argues that its nuclear development is aimed atmeeting the country's growing energy needs.

In November 2013, duringtalks held inGeneva, the P5+1 group ofinternational mediators comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, and Germany agreed toreach a deal withTehran, guaranteeing the peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program byJuly 2014. The deadline forthe agreement was later postponed toNovember 24, 2014.

On Tuesday, the sides started a final roundof talks onIran's nuclear program inVienna, Austria.
