Kerry likely to visit Iran nuclear program talks in Vienna: senior official

The US Secretary of State is expected to participate in the P5+1 and the European Union talks with Iran on its nuclear program, hold in Vienna, Austria on November 18-24.


WASHINGTON, November 18 (Sputnik)USSecretary ofState John Kerry is expected tovisit the P5+1 and the European Union talks withIranonTehran's nuclearprogram, which are tobe held inVienna, Austria later this week, a US senior administration official said.

"I expect that he [Kerry] will [come toVienna] atsome point, probably not tilllater inthe week," the official told reporters onMonday onthe condition ofanonymity.

Kerry will determine the length ofhis stay depending onhow thenegotiationsevolve, according tothe official.

"We [P5+1 group] have continued tomake some progress inthe course ofthese negotiations, butwe still have gaps toclose and we do not yet know if we will be able todo so," the official added.

Extension ofnegotiations onTehran's nuclear program is not onthe agenda, the official reiterated.

Deputy Secretary ofState Wendy Sherman, Former Deputy Secretary ofState William Burns, Former Deputy Secretary ofState Jake Sullivan and other US officials will represent the US negotiating team duringthe upcoming nuclear negotiations withIran, which are scheduled totake place inVienna onNovember 18-24.

In November 2013, the P5+1 group ofinternational mediators agreed toreach a deal withIran guaranteeing the peaceful nature ofits nuclear program byJuly 2014. The deadline forthe agreement was later postponed toNovember 24, 2014.
