Official: All environmental standards observed in Zareh Shuran gold mine

Mahabad, W Azarbaijan Prov., Nov 16, IRNA Deputy Industry, Mines and Trade Minister Mehdi Karbasian said all the sanitary and environmental standards have been observed in Zareh Shuran gold plant in Takaab.
He told reporters that the plant will cause no environmental harm to the region and that in terms of environmental standards the plant is in a satisfactory condition. It even had no environmental difficulty at the time of construction, he noted.
He assured the inhabitants in the area not to be concerned about sanitary condition of the plant and noted that the technology applied in the construction of Zareh Shuran gold plant has been processed by the Iranian designers and experts which is unprecedented in its kind.

He said so far 110 tons of pure gold has been estimated and with future excavations the figure will increase to 150 tons.

Karbasian who is the Chairman of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), further remarked that in coming years in addition to Zareh Shuran gold mine, explorations will be made in smaller gold mines throughout the country.

Pointing to the fact that with the operation of Zareh Shuran gold plant the gold production capacity of the country has reached 5.5 tons per year, he said plans are underway to increase production capacity which is predicted to be implemented by the private sector.

He stressed that Zareh Shuran gold mine cannot create job opportunities in the region alone rather downstream industries should become operational to provide jobs for the youth and graduates in the industry and mine field.

Zareh Shuran gold plant with an annual production capacity of three tons of 24 karat gold, 1.250 tons of silver and 500 kg of mercury was inaugurated in the presence of First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh on Saturday.

The plan is the largest gold production and processing factory in the Middle East.
