Rouhani: Religious leaders should depict real image of Islam worldwide
Tehran, Nov 13, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani said on Thursday that it is among main responsibilities of religious leaders across the globe to depict the real image of Islam.

Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Clerical Office Sheil-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade on Thursday.

In the meeting, Rouhani said some mercenaries with little religious knowledge try to publicize fabricated ideas about Islam in order to seed sow of discords among world Muslims.

It is among the main duties of religious leaders across the globe to depict the real image of Islam to world public opinion, Rouhani said.

Preaching Islamic techings in Azerbaijan and Caucasus is of great importance, underlined President Rouhani.

All Muslims should adopt a unified stand and try to take coordinated action in dealing with global issues, he said.

Some try to mar relationship among Muslims, he said, adding that these groups have depicted an unreal image of Islam and jihad (holy war), trying to imply that Islam advocates violence and crimes.

Religious leaders shoulder a very grave responsibility in dealing with such misleading thoughts and beliefs, Rouhani said.

The two nations and governments are determined to bolster friendship and brotherhood between themselves and with all Muslims around the world, said President Rouhani.

Pashazade, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the visit of the Iranian president and said "Your election is very valuable for both nations as you are harbinger of peace, stability and security in the region particularly among Islamic nations."

As the chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Clerical Office, "I would like to appreciate the Iranian government and nation for supporting Azerbaijan Republic," he said.

Supreme Leader's representative to Azerbaijan also attended the meeting.
