Russia-Iran nuclear deal in line with resolutions: French foreign ministry
French Foreign Ministry stated that cooperation between Russia and Iran on the nuclear power reactors does not contradict UN Security Council resolutions.


PARIS, November 12 (RIA Novosti) The new agreements onpeaceful nuclear energy cooperation betweenMoscow and Tehran do not contradict the UN Security Council resolutions, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Romain Nadal stated Wednesday.

"Cooperation betweenRussia and Iran onthe nuclear power reactors is an exemption allowed bythe resolutions ofthe Security Council and therefore they are not withinthe scope ofthe interim agreement reached inGeneva onNovember 24, 2013," Nadal said ata press briefing.

On Tuesday, Russia and Iran signed several agreements onthe construction oftwo nuclear reactor units atthe Bushehr nuclear power plant, using Russian technology, withthe possibility ofbuilding six more inthe future. An inter-agency memorandum ofunderstanding forthe expansion ofcooperation inthe field ofnuclear energy forpeaceful purposes was also signed.

During the November 2013 talks inGeneva, theP5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, agreed toreach a deal withIran guaranteeing the peaceful nature ofthe country's nuclear program byJuly 2014. The deadline was later extended toNovember 24, 2014.
