Rouhani says impossible for P5+1 nuclear talks group to impede development

Irans president Hassan Rouhani warned international mediators of P5+1 against attempting to hinder development in Iran.


MOSCOW, November 12 (RIA Novosti) Irans president Hassan Rouhani reiterated Tehran's right tonuclear enrichment activities and warned international mediators againstattempting tohinder the country's development, Iran's Press TV reported Wednesday.

If the P5+1 and certain countries pursue a goal toimpede Irans development and are looking fora pretext, this issue is impossible and our nation will never give upthe path ofdevelopment and its rights, Rouhani was quoted assaying bythe news outlet while addressing a cabinet session.

Iran has made its utmost efforts and made the necessary adjustments toits demands and we hope that all the P5+1 countries, particularly the US, which occasionally seeks excessive demands inthenuclear talks, will understand the circumstances, he added.

The United States, France, Britain and Germany want Iran toreduce the number ofuranium enrichment centrifuges inoperation. Iran currently has about19,000 installed withabout 10,000 spinning torefine uranium.

While the West accuses Iran ofattempting todevelop a nuclear weapon underthe guise ofacivilian nuclear program, Tehran argues that its nuclear development is aimed purely atmeeting the countrys growing energy needs and achieving other peaceful goals.

During the November 2013 talks inGeneva, the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, agreed toreach a deal withIran guaranteeing the peaceful nature ofthe countrys nuclear program byJuly 2014. The deadline was later extended toNovember 24, 2014.

US President Barack Obama ina Sunday interview withCBS said there was still abig gap inthe negotiationswhich may prevent a final agreement.
