ISIL fostered by US, allies: IRGC official

ISIL fostered by US, allies: IRGC official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) An official with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps blamed the US and its allies for creation of terrorist groups such as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Speaking to Tasnim at the 20th Exhibition of Press and News Agencies in Tehran on Monday, Head of the IRGC public relations department, General Ramezan Sharif, said the ISIL terrorists benefit from the backing of Washington.

Almost the entire equipment in possession of the ISIL terrorist group are provided by the Americans or their allies, he explained.

A strategic review of the regional developments and the crises caused by the ISIL reveals that the terrorist group has been created by the Zionist regime of Israel and is a stooge of the US and its allies, Sharif noted.

The IRGC official, however, noted that the ISILs position is now seriously at a low ebb across the region, and expressed the hope that the people of the region particularly the Shiite and Sunni Muslims take lessons from the rise and fall of the terrorist group.

The ISIL is a militant group in Iraq and Syria believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries. The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

In addition to attacks on government and military targets, the group has claimed responsibility for attacks that have killed thousands of Iraqi civilians.

In early June, following its large-scale offensives in Iraq, ISIL seized control of most parts of Mosul, the second most populous city in Iraq and its surrounding Nineveh province.
